Add and manage marketplaces
A marketplace is a catalog of plugins. Claude Code Marketplace lists each marketplace in your Claude Code registry, and you can add, update, and remove them from the app. Every change runs the claude plugin marketplace CLI, so Claude Code must be on your PATH.
Open the Marketplaces dialog
Section titled “Open the Marketplaces dialog”Click Add in the top bar. Its tooltip is “Manage marketplaces”. The Marketplaces dialog opens with two parts:
- Add Marketplace: a source field and an Add button.
- Registered: the marketplaces you have now.
Add a marketplace
Section titled “Add a marketplace”- Type a source in the Add Marketplace field.
- Press Enter or click Add.
The app runs claude plugin marketplace add <source>. Press Esc to close the dialog.
Accepted sources
Section titled “Accepted sources”| Source | Example |
|---|---|
GitHub owner/repo |
anthropics/skills |
| http or https URL | https://github.com/org/repo.git |
| SSH git URL | git@github.com:org/repo.git |
| Local folder that exists | ~/dev/my-marketplace or /path/to/directory |
A leading ~ in a folder path expands to your home folder.
The app also rejects a source that starts with - or holds shell characters such as ;, |, &, $, or quotes. Any other value that does not match a form in the table gives this error:
Invalid source: expected owner/repo, a git URL, or an existing directoryRead the result
Section titled “Read the result”After the CLI finishes, the app compares the registry before and after the add. A message under the field tells you what changed.
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
The CLI output, or Added "<name>" when the CLI prints nothing |
The registry has a new marketplace. The field clears and the list reloads. |
"<name>" already existed and now points at <to> (was <from>) |
The source declares a name that was already registered. The CLI takes the name from the source’s marketplace.json, so it moved the existing entry to the new source. It did not add a second one. |
The CLI message, then Registry unchanged: <configDir> |
Nothing changed. For example, the source was already registered. <configDir> is the Claude config folder the app reads. |
If the CLI fails, the error text shows in red.
A marketplace source needs a .claude-plugin/marketplace.json file. If the file is missing, the CLI adds nothing and the app shows Registry unchanged. If a registered marketplace loses the file later, it shows in the tree with no plugins.
See registered marketplaces
Section titled “See registered marketplaces”The Registered list shows each marketplace from the registry. The User Customizations and Project Customizations entries do not show here. Each row has:
- The name and version.
- The source: the repo, path, or URL.
- A badge: GitHub, Local, or Git.
- A count of installed plugins over total plugins, for example
2/9. - A trash button to remove the marketplace.
Click a row to close the dialog and open that marketplace’s info panel.
Remove a marketplace from the dialog
Section titled “Remove a marketplace from the dialog”- Click the trash button on the row.
- Confirm the prompt
Remove marketplace "<name>"?.
The app runs claude plugin marketplace remove <name>.
Update or remove from the info panel
Section titled “Update or remove from the info panel”Click the Marketplace info button (three dots) on a marketplace row in the tree to open its info panel. For the fields it shows, see Marketplace details. Under Actions:
- Update runs
claude plugin marketplace update <name>to fetch the latest catalog. - Remove runs
claude plugin marketplace remove <name>. This button does not ask you to confirm.
A message shows while the command runs, then the CLI output or the error. The data reloads after a success.
